Weaving 101 Cowl Kit
$42.00
The perfect first project, kitted up to accompany Weaving 101, the Yarnworker School of Weaving’s first online rigid-heddle weaving course.
Description
These kits are currently out of stock. The warp yarn, Luma, is still available from The Fibre Co., but the weft weight of Aranmore has been discontinued. I suggest Lucky Tweed by Kelbourne Woolens as a good substitute. It is a slightly thinner, woolen-spun, 100% Merino yarn made at the same mill. I discuss considerations for selecting warp and weft in the class. Any worsted weight yarn will work as weft.
Dreaming of Weaving? Here is a perfect beginner’s project, kitted up to accompany Weaving 101, the Yarnworker School of Weaving’s first online rigid-heddle weaving course. These yarns were carefully selected for their different attributes to highlight functional considerations as you begin selecting yarns for weaving. They work up into a dreamy combination that will make this cowl your go-to accessory, complete with a hidden pocket. The pattern is available with the course.
The kit contains two yarns from The Fiber Co., conveniently wound into cakes in the perfect amounts to complete one cowl, with a bit of extra yardage for extending the length if desired. Included are 137 yards of Luma, a delicious blend of Merino wool, cotton, silk, and cashmere, in one of three color choices, and 85 yards of Aranmore comprised of Merino wool, silk, and cashmere in a creamy white with occasional flecks of pale yellow. Also included is a pack of SOAK, fragrance-free, no-rinse soap, my go-to choice for wet finishing.
